Bullet Journals Are Awesome!
JAN 23, 2025
Dear Reader,
I’m very proud of myself today, but first I have a little bit of digital housekeeping to do. Welcome to my first…actually my second but who’s counting…Substack post! I mentioned last week that I’d be switching email providers and indeed I have. This hot juicy piece of writing is coming to you live (okay not exactly live but…) from a shiny new (not really but kind of) Substack account. Can you tell? Hopefully not. Hopefully this landed in your inbox like it always does and not the Spam oubliette. I always worry about that because we all know that’s not a great place to hang out. There’s scary people and things and ThingPeople and Whosies and Whatsies and…
Ahem.
Plus if this has indeed landed in that dark dark place you’ll never even see this message so you won’t know I need to be rescued. Huh. Not sure what to do about that.

Annyyyway, here we are! Welcome! Again!
Now for the organizing stuff I’m all proud of myself for doing!
I Did A Journal!
When I’m writing, I usually give myself a daily word count goal and I give myself a sticker when I reach it. It’s kind of like giving a kid a gold star on their chore list, except I have to make the list and buy the sticker and then award myself with it like it’s a surprise.
Usually this sticker was slapped on a calendar, along with a note of the actual word count for the day. But it was hard to find a calendar that 1) had big enough squares for decent sized stickers because no, I didn’t use actual stars, I used butterflies and happy faces and things like that, the bigger the better, and 2) had a pretty design I could live with for months on end.
They just don’t make the perfect set up for what I’m doing, so Ms. Edwina and I decided to switch to bullet journaling. We dove in to it with wild reckless abandon. We spent the last few weeks setting up our new very pretty journals. It was like having arts and crafts every day. Queue the cutting and pasting and fretting over color choices. In the end, I have a book that sits on a shelf very nicely, that contains all the things I need to keep track of with the added bonus of PLENTY of space for motivational stickers AND it makes me smile when I open it.
Check out my opening spread for February!

That calendar is NOT where the stickers will go. The stickers will go on the next EIGHT pages which have spaces for each day that will fill my stickery heart with joy. I’ll share those when I’ve earned the stickers to pretty them up.
And look at the very pretty opening journal page that Ms. Edwina DREW for me, with her own hand…no tracing involved!

If that’s not motivation to use an organizational system I don’t know what is. I love opening my new journal and seeing all the places I can record my progress.
All I have to do now is…well…get to work!
Until next time,
